Declan has a heart defect called Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) with Pulmonary Atresia and MAPCAS. The picture shows what Declan's heart looks like post surgery.
TOF is a condition that effects 4 areas of his heart and pulmonary atresia means his pulmonary artery is very narrow. Your pulmonary artery is the path blood takes to the lungs.
MAPCAS are Major Aoratopulmonary Collateral Arteries that branched off of Declan's aorta to make up for the very narrow pulmonary artery! His little body created two to help get blood to his lungs!
For his open heart surgery, Dr. Morrell took those tiny little arteries and rerouted them in his conduit along with his pulmonary artery to create adequate blood flow to his lungs.
Our little man is definitely a heart warrior
